The search
The idea of reuniting the cubs with their mother is a poignant one, indeed. However, there was no telling if she would still accept the cubs. It looks like she abandoned them, after all, so there’s no guarantee that she would even claim them back. Even as they found the best place to drop the cubs off, they still feared for their security as she could still attack them.
