Accidental casting

Actress Kelly Bishop is best remembered for playing Mrs. Houseman. However, this wasn’t the role that she initially signed up for. She was originally cast for the role of Vivian, while Lynne Lipton was meant to play Baby’s mom. However, Lynne got sick and had to back out of the movie. The rest, as they say, is history. Kelly’s role as Baby’s mother paved the way for more acting jobs later on, including a stint on Gilmore Girls as Emily Gilmore.
