Motherly instinct failure?

The mother bear easily jumped into the freezing water much like one jumping into a hot tub, and immediately began swimming. It’s clear that she assumed that her cubs would just follow suit, and they did. Unfortunately, it soon became obvious that they were having a hard time keeping up. Other bears could likely help their struggling young, but this mother bear seemed oblivious to her cubs’ plight and continued swimming on her own.
